About Me
I am a primary (or elementary) school teacher working at a government run, K-10 school, marine discovery centre in Tasmania (Woodbridge School Marine Discovery Centre @ www.woodbridge.education.tas.edu.au/marine-discovery-centre). Classes from Tasmanian schools visit me each day to undertake marine science learning. I am also a member of the national executive of the Australian Association for Environmental Education. Within this group is the Australian Marine Education Network, Australia's only national network for ocean literacy educators. I am coordinating the 2020 SeaWeek (Australia's annual 7-day version of World Oceans Day), in order to promote Ocean Literacy. I believe Ocean Literacy's framework of 7 key principles is a great tool to assist teachers in what ideas to teach in relation to the ocean. The ocean/sea/marine is barely mentioned in the Australian science curriculum, so the Ocean Literacy principles provide teachers the important ideas to link to the Australian science curriculum outcomes.
