Join QAtCanSTEM Members, and invited BIPOC panelists, to discuss the realities of being BIPOC in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths

About this Event

At Queer Atlantic Canadian STEM (QAtCanSTEM), we recognize that systemic racism runs deep within our country, the Atlantic Canada community, and at the institutional level such as universities. This leads to issues resulting in Black-Indigenous-People-of-Colour (BIPOC) voices often neglected in the STEM community and in the 2SLGBTQIAA+ community.

For 2020 Halifax Pride and Dalhousie Pride week, QAtCanSTEM BIPOC members get together to celebrate BIPOC representations in the STEM community through our online panel event titled “BIPOC in STEM: An Online Panel”. Here, we have invited a group of BIPOC panelists who are experts in different STEM fields to speak on their STEM expertise, their career journey and their experience in the STEM community as BIPOC.

This event will be open to all 2SLGBTQIA+ and allies to learn from and participate in. We recognize that Queer and Trans BIPOC folks exist broadly and within STEM fields, and this event will focus on issues that exist at the intersections of these communities. This event will be recorded for any unattended individuals who are interested in learning, for archive purposes but most importantly to hopefully inspire many future BIPOC STEMists and celebrate the ongoing contributions of BIPOC STEMists across different STEM fields.

Certain accessibilities and features will be provided throughout the online event include:

- QTBIPOC anti-oppression trained active listening

- ASL Interpretation

- 2-minute-interval break before the Q&As session for stretching and quick debriefs

Zoom link will be provided closer to the date.
