Outreach Fair

For this challenge, you will host an outreach/career fair with local conservation organizations!

Outreach education is an important part of engaging the public in conservation efforts. Depending on your location, you can engage audiences who might otherwise never have come in contact with your message. An outreach/career fair is a great way for people to engage with many like minded organizations in a short amount of time.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Choose a time, date and location for your event. An event that is easily accessible to the public is best. Do a site visit and determine how many organizations/tables the space can hold. Does the site have power? WIFI? Are there washrooms nearby?
  2. Pick a theme for the fair. Is it specifically linked to careers? Is it a showcase of organizations fighting plastic pollution? Is it for a specific day (Ex. World Oceans Day, World Environment Day or World Water Day)?
  3. Invite relevant organizations in your area to attend. Some conservation organizations include: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Water Keeper Alliance, Canadian Wildlife Federation, Surfrider FoundationOcean Legacy Foundation, Canada's Accredited Zoos and Aquariums Members. Look for local conservation initiatives and municipal 'Green' Initiatives.
  4. Ensure organizations know to bring all equipment: Tents, tables, chairs.
  5. Use the Communications Plan Template to develop a communications strategy. Contact the Ocean Bridge Communication Coordinator to connect you with local media outlets.
  6. Market your event! Invite friends, family and members of the community to attend. Spread the word through social media, and community meetings, or in person.

  1. Ensure all participating organizations have everything they need.
  2. Be active on social media using our hashtags #OceanBridge #LeadersToday and tag @OceanWise @leaderstoday and @SocDevSoc on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
  3. Thank the organizations for attending

  1. Share your experience! Tag your service on our Ocean Service Activities map. Take photos and share them on our community space gallery, write a blog or post about your experience on the discussion board.
