The dedication of the sʔi:ɬqəy̓ qeqən (double-headed serpent post) at the University of British Columbia Stephanie In 2016, UBC marked its 100th anniversary. The university reconfirmed their partnership with our Musqueam friends and neighbours by joining in the dedication of the sʔi:ɬqəy̓ qeqən (double-headed serpent post). Purposefully located at the heart of the campus to symbolize UBC’s location in the heart of the traditional territory of the Musqueam people, it is a welcoming sign to all who visit these grounds. This document shares the story behind this beautiful art piece and gives us a glimpse into Musqueam culture.
